I have been busy creatively lately. The winter and spring has included working on my mixed media figures, which I am calling “Figments of My Imagination” or FOMI, as well as volunteering, teaching fellow artists, and travel.
FOMI figures so far include elves, a fairy, a woman figure that’s been called “Big Girl” and more animals that are under development!
Two figures - Birdy the Blue Bird and Punchy the Elf - are on display (and for sale) in the window of the A Mano Gallery (in the old Five and Dime Store) on Union Street in Lambertville. (Follow A Mano Galleries on Instagram. It's a cool shop/gallery.)
“Big Girl” was a commission piece and has been picked up. 🙂I continue to make more because I enjoy making them and it’s truly mixed media - which I love. Stay tuned for them to be added to my website for sale and at local events. (See below.)
How are the FOMI made?
The figures are based on a wire and aluminum armature. The heads are sculpted from air-dry clay.
Each figure emerges from the clay as I work with it. As a head starts, the figure’s look and personality develops. They tell me what they want to be, if you know what I mean. Once dry, they are painted to really bring forth their unique quirky-ness.
The body is then covered with tape and filled with poly-fill. Each figure's body is covered with fabrics, fibers for hair, and accessories and details added.
I love adding the fabric and details!
