About Colleen Miller

Colleen Miller, Mixed Media ArtistArtist Statement

I am currently making whimsical, small mixed media sculptures of figures such as elves, fairies, cats and birds. Calling these artworks - FOMI - Figments of My Imagination struck me as very on point for my slightly eccentric sculptures, as each draws solely from my own creative invention. Each figure is completely unique in its sculpted expression, body shape and size, and the color palette used.

All my art is inspired by the  human need for play and seeks to bring joy and a sense of wonder to the viewer. My mixed media art  brings together paper clay, paint, fabric, collage materials, and multiple skills.

The common threads in my art whether painting, collage or other mediums are bold colors, high contrast, texture, and layers.

In painting and collage, I make abstract and "folk art" style pieces with themes of nature - plants and trees as well as animals . Bringing together color and texture and repetition, I  create pattern and shape and build an image that is pleasing and engaging.

I love to experiment and have worked in many mediums - fiber arts, printmaking, painting, collage, altered books and journals. All these practices come together in my work today

See my "Meet the Maker" post for more details.
